Discover Clear Vision with Specialized Contact Lenses

Centreville Eye Care Center understands that some individuals face unique challenges when wearing contacts. Whether it's due to eye shape, specific conditions, or previous surgery, we provide solutions for the "hard-to-fit" patient.

Tailored for Your Eyes

Being labeled "hard to fit" doesn't mean you can't enjoy the comfort and convenience of contact lenses. It means you may need a more specialized approach. Our experienced eye doctors have the expertise and a range of products to find the perfect match for your unique situation.

You may be a hard-to-fit contact lens candidate if you have a condition like dry eyes, astigmatism, giant papillary conjunctivitis, keratoconus, post-LASIK issues, or presbyopia.

Dry Eyes and Contact Lenses

Dry eye syndrome can make your eyes feel gritty, burning, and irritated; contact lenses may sometimes worsen these symptoms. But there's good news! Our team can help you manage chronic dry eyes and find contacts that work for you. Specialized soft lenses and cleaning solutions designed for dry eye patients can provide the comfort you need. Gas-permeable lenses are another option, as they hold moisture beneath the lens, preventing dryness.

Toric Lenses for Astigmatism

Astigmatism can lead to blurred or even double vision, making traditional contact lenses a poor fit. That's where toric lenses come in. Custom-made to fit your eyes, these soft lenses stay in place, correcting your astigmatism. In some cases, we recommend gas-permeable lenses. Due to their customized nature, toric lenses are slightly more expensive and take more time to produce, but their comfort and the clear vision they offer are worth it.

Giant Papillary Conjunctivitis (GPC) and Contact Lenses

GPC can cause swelling of the inner eyelid, and protein deposits on contact lenses may exacerbate it. Daily disposable lenses or RGP lenses can be a solution. These lenses do not accumulate protein deposits and may better fit your eyes. Medicated eye drops and a break from contact lens wear can also be part of the treatment.

Rigid Gas Permeable (RGP) Lenses

RGP lenses are highly effective for many hard-to-fit patients. Their oxygen-permeable material allows your eyes to breathe and minimizes the risk of infection. These lenses also hold moisture beneath them, preventing dryness.

Keratoconus can cause discomfort and blurry vision with traditional contact lenses. RGP lenses can help slow the progression of this condition and improve vision, which is often challenging with soft lenses or glasses.

Post-LASIK or Vision Correction Surgery

Sometimes, LASIK surgery can lead to side effects like glare or halos around lights. RGP lenses often reduce these side effects and restore clear vision.

Bifocal and Multifocal Contact Lenses for Presbyopia

Presbyopia, which affects those over 40, makes close-up tasks more challenging. Bifocal or multifocal contact lenses are an excellent choice for those who prefer contacts over glasses. Monovision is another option, which provides one eye with distance vision and the other with near vision. Multifocal contact lenses are available, with both eyes correcting distance and near vision simultaneously. Adjusting to these options typically takes about a week.

If you face challenges with contact lenses, don't give up. Our practice is committed to exploring every possible solution. Contact us to discuss your unique needs, and let us help you find the ideal lenses for your eyes. Your comfort and clear vision are our top priorities.
